Rural areas now have a secure and efficient banking with the widespread of e-banking services through Bancnet outsourcing. UCPB Savings has provided the financial convenience thru ATMS and point-of-sale POS cash-out terminals even in the far-reaching areas. According to President Angel Mojica, it was crucial that all UCPB Savings branches were equipped with ATMs. He said, “Many Filipinos still need to travel for several hours just to withdraw money from ATM service in the nearest city. We bring convenience closer to them by putting up our own.”
Reaching remote places like Lamitan in Basilan; Caramoan in Camarines Sur; Tuburan in Cebu and Sogod in Southern Leyte are few of the branches of UCPB Savings ATM service has to offer. The Bank has provided wireless communication and backup connection through landline to minimize potential downtime. “We utilize satellite communication to closely monitor the status of our ATMs. After this upgrade, we rarely run out of cash,” President Mojica said.
In 2013, when Typhoon Yolanda devastated the Visayas region, the bank’s ATM in Sogod was the only operating ATM in the vicinity for several miles. This is a testament to UCPB Savings’ impeccable service. As one of the first few banks to avail BancNet’s outsourcing service, the partnership has helped lower expenditures significantly. This allowed UCPB Savings to focus more on branch expansion in remote areas.
Aside from its continuous support, Bancnet also provided UCPB Savings the latest ATM technology with the inclusion of EMV chip. “We hope BancNet can encourage more people to utilize ATMs and other e-banking services, even those living in the countryside. This is the first step towards financial inclusion that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has always wanted to achieve,” President Mojica said.
