Finding a cure for the Covid-19 pandemic is a race against time, but the world is unanimously engaging all of its resources to win. While this is happening, the battle against the disease remained a challenge to the whole community, and more specifically to the one exposed and the care giver. To fight Covid-19’s transmission in medical facilities, UCPB Savings Bank (USB) reached out to Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to donate Sixty-six thousand pesos (P66,000.00) as a support to their undertakings.
The check was turned over by the Bank’s MIS, Corplan and Marketing Unit Division Head Jaime Juan Valera III and HRD Head Marian Espino to PRC Events to Emergency Giving Officer Shervi Mae Corpuz on April 27, 2020 at the USB Head Office. A simple turn-over was done as a precautionary measure, and in compliance to the implemented physical distancing.
Ms. Corpus stated that the fund will not only contribute for PRC’s fight against transmission, by working with communities disproportionately impacted by coronavirus, but also to help meet immediate needs for healthcare, food, water, and sanitation. The agency established a Covid-19 hotline (DIAL 1158) that refers clients to appropriate treatment centers and deploy a volunteer-based task force to conduct house-to-house surveying of those who require monitoring. At the same time, PRC also mobilized volunteers to conduct hygiene promotion & education in congested areas of the community. As a direct support to the medical establishments, medical tents were put up to augment bed capacity and PPE materials were supplied.
For significant causes, the amount serves as a humble gift from the Bank employees to the everyday heroes of this trying time.
